The concha has a long history among Plains and Southwestern Native Americans dating back to at least the early 1700's. The first Navajo silversmith credited with creating one in ingot silver was Atsidi Chon while at Fort Defiance sometime around 1868 to 1869 and since then the concho has become a popular accessory with Indigenous people of the Southwest as well as non Native Americans who appreciate having a special piece to add to their collection of Indian jewelry.
